Change your lug nuts. It sounds stupid, but after having to remove 5 stripped lug nuts with a hammer and socket, the stock ones are just trash. Luckily I discovered this while doing the brakes, not on the side of the road.
Gorilla lugs are nice.

I had the same issue with my regular version Focus. Apparently Ford likes to use chrome covered steel or something like that. the two metals don’t play nice and they swell making it near impossible to get the lugs of in a normal way

you using metric socket on standard lugs? or vise versa? maybe the place that last put on the wheels got a bit extreme with the impact?.... something sounds a bit off.....

Nope, they are just crappy lugs. It’s a super common issue. Apparently there is a law suit over it even.

Yup, those chrome-capped nuts are such a common problem that they make half-step sized sockets to help deal with them.

thanks for the tip!

Yup. Dealership gave me an extra bag of em for the FiST when I had them swap my wheels while they were doing a service on it. The aftermarket ones for my MSW wheels were much better.

Classic Ford and their swollen nuts.

Are they aluminum lugs? This is why I’m steel lugs forever, weight savings be damned. I had a set of aftermarket aluminum ones melt after a day of autocross. I had to get a thread chaser in order to get my other set of wheels back on. Those lug nuts went straight to the trash and I picked up a nice set of steel ones.

Not just ST and RS. The stock lugs on my Boostang also suck and have this same issue. I’ve vhewed up a bunch of them getting them on and off at autocross. I’ve bought a nice set of open cap plain steel lugs to use with the autocross wheels...

I guess they are? I’m not really sure, but they are plastic levels of cheap.

Be happy it was the outside of the lugs and not the inside that shredded. I didn’t have a thread chaser the first time I ran into the problem and had to use a flat head and hammer to get the shards of aluminum out in little spirals

Hey, forgive me but I’m a noob when it comes to rims/wheels/lugs.
I ordered some of the Gorillas on your recommendation. I am putting them on my new Sparco Assetto Gara rims. Should work right?

Yeah, it definitely should. Remember to keep the key in the car at all times. They aren’t locking, but they don’t use a standard socket size. The key is a socket that fits in the lug wrench though.
